Enable technicians to share access with owners
Some equipment is installed by a technician who initially will have admin access. After the appliance is installed, administrative rights should in principle be handed over to the owner. Because this is typically a cumbersome and risky process, this is often not done at all. Owners then need to ‘trust’ the technician that he/she will never abuse the access rights.
A better solution is known as ‘delegated administration’. In the Internet-of-Things, a technician would still set up the appliance with admin rights. After the installation has been tested successfully and the appliance is linked to the Internet, the technician invites the owner to become the administrator. After the onwer registers himself/herself through the internet, he/she takes over the role of administrator. The owner can still delegate some access rights to the technician, if he/she wants to do so.
